A 1997 graduate of Tyrone Area High School, Jason
was born and raised in a small town of Central Pennsylvania. It
was not until the spring of 1990 that Jason was introduced to the
Turfgrass industry when his brother, John Zimmers, took a job working
a golf course in Delaware. Playing golf through high school, Jason's
love for the game grew. After graduating from Tyrone Area High School,
Jason's first golf course maintenance experience came when he went
to work for his brother John in Ohio at the Tom Fazio designed Sand
Ridge Golf Club.
While attending The University of Pittsburgh and
completing his Bachelor of Science degree, Jason continued working
as a seasonal employee at Sand Ridge Golf Club. In 1999 Jason followed
John from Sand Ridge to Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
While working at historic Oakmont Country Club, Jason chose to make
Turfgrass Management his profession. Upon graduating from The University
of Pittsburgh, Jason went to work full time on the Oakmont Country
Club maintenance staff. While working at Oakmont Jason was involved
with more renovations than Oakmont had done in its 100 year history.
These renovations included a massive tree removal program, bunker
restoration, fairway narrowing, new tee construction, installation
of new 5-row irrigation system, irrigation holding pond and maintenance
facility updates including new wash and fuel depot, 100% self-contained
chemical storage facility.
Wanting to further his turfgrass knowledge, Jason
applied to Rutgers University. In 2003 Jason was accepted to Rutgers
University and graduated in 2005 with a Professional Turfgrass Management
Certificate.
In May of 2005, Jason accepted the assistant Superintendent
position and Joined Jim Thomas, former Oakmont Assistant, at Deal
Golf and Country Club in Deal, New Jersey. Deal is currently undergoing
maintenance facility renovations including the installation of a
wash and fuel depot, sand silo, and 100% self-contained chemical
storage facility, as well as an $8 million clubhouse renovation.
Jason has been in the turf industry for twelve
years, with the last four years as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
at Deal Golf and Country Club. Jason's passion for turf and love
of life can be seen in his work experiences and in his family with
his wife of five years Karen.
